Dark IS the Night

May 4th, 2009

Last night I went to Radio City Music Hall to see Dark Was the Night. A benefit show for the Red Hot Organization. If you haven’t heard the music yet, check out the widget on the right side of this blog for three of my favorite songs! There were several different artists at the show that were featured on the 31 track album. David Byrne was there and performed several songs that he had recorded on past Dark Was The Night albums but had never performed. The best was when he said “Dark IS the Night” instead of “Was.”

Some of the highlights of the show were Bon Iver (my obsession) and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. I saw Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings in New Orleans at Jazzfest last weekend and boy, does she have amazing energy. She just keeps going and going. It was really interesting to see these artists at a venue as large as Radio City. Everyone was seated the entire show until the last song when everyone who had performed came out for a Pete Seeger tribute (as it was his birthday last night), “This Land is Your Land” which was fantastic. Check out Dark Was the Night and check out pictures/video footage at: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2009/05/seeger_was_the.html#more
