Maya Tobias’ Jewelry is “eclectic, bold, abstract, sometimes even asymmetrical—a collage of materials I’ve found and collected through my travels all over the world and from scouring antique markets in New York.” I met Maya last summer in Tel Aviv and she now lives in NYC. She has designed these gorgeous unique pieces of jewelry that as she wrote on her Etsy page, are a “collage.” I’ve always been a big fan of collages and pulling things together to make a masterpiece, thus why I like her stuff! Below is my favorite necklace, the Colleen Ellis Affair Necklace.

I went to Water Taxi Beach on Long Island City many times last summer and had such a great time. Good music, people watching, great view, delicious drinks and decent food. I was excited when they announced they were opening a new one at the South Street Seaport as it’s not often that I make it down to the seaport but it seemed easier/closer/more convenient than leaving the city. So we headed down there on not the sunny-est day but still wanted to check it out. It was Children’s Day @ the seaport and we did not go there prepared for that. Children and families took over the seaport and Water Taxi Beach.
We walked around a bit, and tried not to ruin any of the children’s sand castles. We were a little confused as to where alcoholic drinks were vs. non-alcoholic drinks–just not very clear signage. We went to the food counter and we ordered veggie burgers and asked what the special on the board was “vegan pot salad” and the server had absolutely no idea what we were talking about or what it was. She asked and found out it was potato salad so we ordered that and a side of fries. $18. We waited a bit for the food and checked out the condiment bar. While waiting for our food, the manager came over to us to see if we were enjoying ourselves. We said how we were quite surprised by the number of children and families were there, and he said that was the owners mission. He said by 8pm, it becomes more 20somethings with djs and drinking but during the day is more family friendly. Our food came and we went back to the sandy area to eat it to find out they had served us regular burgers instead of veggie burgers. I went back to exchange my burger and the server felt bad and offered me a free water or soda. The food was very eh, just nothing exciting. It was nice to sit outside, people watch, have sand between my toes and have a nice view but it wasn’t the ideal situation with all the children. Really nice workers and friendly people.
They have skee ball and ping pong and the boat from The Real World Brooklyn. I hope to go back again, later in the day, when it is less families and more 20somethings otherwise I think I’ll be heading back to Long Island City.
