Born and raised in NYC and can count on my fingers and toes the number of times I’ve been to Brooklyn (and more than half of them were for shows). Two of the times were the past two Sundays (and only one stop on the L train away from my apt). The Pool Parties at The Williamsburg Waterfront. Last week was GirlTalk (and some other dj’s/guys that didn’t do it for me) and this week was vega, Beach House & GrizzlyBear. This was my 3rd GirlTalk show and such a different atmosphere than the past two and yet equally as fun! Grizzly Bear is one of my favorites and they put on such a fantastic show. I had never heard of Beach House until The Pool Parties and just downloaded their music, they were great.
The scene at the pool parties is hipsters in American Apparel and ridiculously bright colors and 80s gear. THE ultimate people watching spot, overlooking the Manhattan skyline and an afternoon with awesome music. What more can you want? Celebrity sightings? They have that too! (Chuck Schumer, Beyonce & JayZ, Mischa Barton and even spotted Erin from “hit” TV show, The City were all at the last pool party!). This Sunday was the last of The Pool Parties but check out their website here and follow them on twitter here for next summer!

My friend Catie Lindberg, will be running the prestigious New York City marathon on November 1, 2009. She has dedicated herself both physically and mentally to this immense challenge, but what is most inspiring about her desire to cross the finish line is that she is doing it to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
If this noble cause and Catie’s sweet little face weren’t incentive enough to donate, we are throwing a party on October 1st at the Upper West Side hotspot Calle Ocho (446 Columbus Avenue btwn 81st&82nd) to help fire up your philanthropic spirits. Your $30 ticket will provide unlimited beer, wine and Calle’s ever-popular sangria, as well as lots of delicious Latin-inspired food. See old friends, meet new people, eat empanadas, and have a generally fabulous night—all in the name of an incredibly worthwhile cause.
Please RSVP to ensure we’ll have the proper quantities of food & booze. If you are going to attend, we will direct you to a PayPal account so you can purchase your ticket in advance and we can make sure all money is seamlessly deposited into the ACS fund.
If you can’t make it but would like to make a donation, you can visit Catie’s fundraising page here:

Sunny and spacious 2 bedroom Morningside Heights apartment. I need to move closer to Brooklyn for professional reasons and I must sublet my current space to do so…Ideally, the sublet would run till February, but I am also open to a sublet shorter than that. In any event, it would begin September 1st.
The location is 129 and St. Nicholas Terrace. This is a quite side avenue, only two blocks away from the A and D express trains (125/127th st). FYI, The next express stop on the A/D is 59th Street Columbus Circle: I work near Penn Station, and it only takes a brief 3 stops/12 minutes to get there. Very convenient for a downtown worker — in addition to someone local, i.e. a Columbia University or City College student.
The two bedrooms (which overlook a park) are huge, as is the living room. They are an “un-Manhattan-like” 17×18, 22×10 and 18×19, respectively (with 9 foot ceilings). All rooms let in copious amounts of sunlight (the bedrooms in the morning and the living room at dusk). There is also an abundance of closet space. The apartment has a total of 5 sizable closets — 2 of which are walk-in.
You will also enjoy:
Cherry wood floors.
Granite counter tops.
Nice appliances.
Full-kitchen.
Large bathroom.
LAUNDRY IN BASEMENT.
Limitless supply of free hot water.
Strong water pressure.
Ample heat during winter.
ELEVATOR.
Very peaceful.
First person to deliver first month’s rent — $2,100 — plus one month’s security deposit can move in September 1st. (Note that you would also be responsible for electric. (Gas and hot-water free.) If you would like, I can also help you try and take the lease over when my current lease expires in February. This would save you the 15% (of annual lease) broker fee I paid to get this terrific space.

This weekend marked the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. On Thursday, August 13th, The Morrison Hotel Gallery held an event celebrating Woodstock’s Anniversary. Official festival photographer, Henry Diltz and festival producer, Michael Lang were both there to sign The Woodstock Experience, a limited edition double book set with text by Lang and photos by Diltz. The book isn’t just a book, it’s an incredible collection of pictures, text and memories. They featured original photographs from Woodstock, many taken by Diltz at The Morrison Hotel Gallery.

Upper west side family with three kids – Abigail is now 9, Dahlia will be 8 next month, and Joseph is 4.
After labor day for a one year commitment, we are looking for someone to work about 30 hours a week, plus some travel. If there is a great person out there who needs a few hours more of work per week, I will try my best to accommodate.
Hours – 2:30 – 7:30, five days a week with an average of two later nights per week. These hours are a bit imprecise especially with regard to Fridays, but I think a good starting place. I am around a lot during this time. In addition to straight up babysitting, I am looking for someone who can help me do all other stuff involved with having three kids — errands, some food prep, straightening (not cleaning), help with homework, coordinating playdates, etc.

I just returned to NYC from a wonderful weekend in Chicago. It was my first time there and it is definitely my 3rd favorite city in the US (#1 NYC, #2 SanFran). Spent three days at Lollapalooza (http://www.lollapalooza.com/) with rain/mud for day one and scorching heat day 2/3 but we had an absolute blast. Some of the music highlights were: Kings of Leon, YeahYeahYeahs, The Killers, Santigold, Snoop Dogg and Fleet Foxes among others. Some great photos from Lollapalooza can be seen here: http://www.spin.com/gallery/best-lollapalooza-2009-live
We spent a day wandering around the city. Took a boat tour of the Chicago architecture (http://www.shorelinesightseeing.com/) which was informative and got some great photos. We went to the Museum of Contemporary Photography (http://www.mocp.org/) and I discovered a new photographer that I am very interested in, Curtis Mann. We walked around Millennium Park (http://www.millenniumpark.org/) -saw The Bean, their summer-stage like venue where a band was rehearsing, The Cancer Survivors Garden and much more. It was a perfect day.
People have been raving about Chicago for years, and I understand why! Some of my photo highlights:
