While at Lollapalooza this August, I saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the first time, and wow was I impressed. I’d heard the song, Maps, of course before as well as a few others but never really spent time with them. I insisted on getting tickets to see them while they were in New York. They played at Radio City last week and last night I saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Music Hall of Williamsburg. One of my favorite venues, considering it’s in Brooklyn. Karen O puts on such a performance. Between the outfits, her stage presence, dancing and overall voice–it’s quite the scene. Check out some photos from the show last night that I took and listen to Yeah Yeah Yeah’s newest album “It’s Blitz”

As summer draws to a close, and the crisp air brings boots & sweaters back into our wardrobe, we invite you to join us in celebrating the Chelsea Art Museum’s brand new ROOF DECK, as well as my favorite season of the year – FALL!
For those of you new to the “Y.A.” it is a dynamic group that makes experiencing art & culture much more accessible through non-intimidating events such as intimate gallery talks, studio visits with artists, as well as private tours of museums, art fairs & auction houses. Our biggest events though are our “seasonal” parties which are open to members and non-members alike.
Our Fall Benefit will be a little different from our other seasonal parties. This time we have brought on a fantastic Benefit Committee to help take things to the next level! We will have live music by Your Vegas & Paul and the Patients, and a DJ set by DB Wonder. In addition to four-hour open bar, we’ll also have a Silent Art Auction featuring several young talented artists!
What: Fall Benefit
When: Thursday, October 1st, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Where: Chelsea Art Museum
556 West 22nd Street (@ 11th Ave & West Side Hwy)
Tickets: $25 in advance / $30@Door
**You may purchase tickets in advance @ http://www.chelseaartmuseum.org/YA/yafallparty09.html

On November 1st, my friend Sara will be running the New York City Marathon with her friends at Spring Mountain Capital, LP to raise a total of $26,285. Running 26.2 miles may seem like pure torture, but on top of fulfilling this dream, she will be running for The Robin Hood Foundation, one of New York’s leading organizations helping those in poverty.
Statistics that Robin Hood is trying to improve:
* 55% of all babies born in the City – our neighbors – are born into poverty.
* 40% of NYC public school students don’t graduate on time.
* Tonight, 35,000 New Yorkers will sleep in shelters; 15,000 of them are children.
With your help, Sara hope to reach her personal goal of raising $5,000 for the Foundation, which gives 100% of every donation directly to programs helping those who are less fortunate. As you may know, Robin Hood targets poverty in NYC by finding, funding and partnering with 200 of the city’s most effective anti-poverty programs and schools. Robin Hood’s board of directors underwrites all fundraising and administrative costs- which means every penny of every donation goes directly to the best poverty-fighting programs in the city.
Any amount donated would be much appreciated. When we are all on board to support such a notable charity, every dollar counts and everyone benefits.

The Walking Men WorldWide installation is scheduled to make its first public debut in the heart of New York City’s downtown, on the site of the upcoming tallest residential building in NY. The Installation, put together with the support of the Alliance for Downtown New York, will surround the site of a prestigious international hotel located on Church street. This public installation aims to collect and display over one hundred life size figures to be assembled and composed side by side, and will remain on display through 2011, at the center of lower Manhattan where lower TriBeCa and the Financial District meet.
We welcome photographers from different cities to submit their images through this website, and help the community grow by inviting their own friends to join.

Non-profit organization, “Artists 4 Israel” is a community of creative individuals working together in ongoing collaborative projects expressing Israel’s right to exist in peace and security.
We have been asked by the Mayor of Sderot, a small town in Israel only ten city blocks away from the Gaza Strip to come give life to their town though mural painting and teach art to their children. We will be painting bomb shelters, bus stops, playgrounds and broken down buildings. Sderot is providing ten artists lodging and food for our stay there but we are still looking to raise money for the travel expenses and paint supplies for this mission.

Help us raise the rest of the funds for this trip. We are taking all kinds of donations. Any donation of $500 or more is a tax write off as we are a non-profit organization. It’s hard to believe that eight years ago, on this very day, I was sitting in my high school history class and we were discussing the importance of being proud to be an American, and then our principal walked in and said two planes just hit the towers and everyone’s jaws just dropped. Nobody could put words together, everyone was just in shock. We all met in the auditorium and weren’t allowed to leave the building unless we had someone pick us up or we were given permission from our parents to leave. I walked home with my friend and our friends mother because there were no buses, cabs or trains running. The cloud of smoke coming from downtown didn’t go away for days, and even more so the smell. My school was closed for a few days, and I took off a few other days. I volunteered for several days, and was trying to do anything I could to help. I was fortunate to not have known anyone in the towers, but that day changed the world. We lost too many people, but Americans especially gained more love for the country than I had ever seen before. That day has been drilled into my head forever. I can’t believe it has been 8 years. New York will never be the same from that day. This is a photo I took last weekend from New Jersey, the skyline is simply not the same.

Always remember those we lost on 9/11.
