While at Lollapalooza this August, I saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the first time, and wow was I impressed. I’d heard the song, Maps, of course before as well as a few others but never really spent time with them. I insisted on getting tickets to see them while they were in New York. They played at Radio City last week and last night I saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Music Hall of Williamsburg. One of my favorite venues, considering it’s in Brooklyn. Karen O puts on such a performance. Between the outfits, her stage presence, dancing and overall voice–it’s quite the scene. Check out some photos from the show last night that I took and listen to Yeah Yeah Yeah’s newest album “It’s Blitz”

It’s hard to believe that eight years ago, on this very day, I was sitting in my high school history class and we were discussing the importance of being proud to be an American, and then our principal walked in and said two planes just hit the towers and everyone’s jaws just dropped. Nobody could put words together, everyone was just in shock. We all met in the auditorium and weren’t allowed to leave the building unless we had someone pick us up or we were given permission from our parents to leave. I walked home with my friend and our friends mother because there were no buses, cabs or trains running. The cloud of smoke coming from downtown didn’t go away for days, and even more so the smell. My school was closed for a few days, and I took off a few other days. I volunteered for several days, and was trying to do anything I could to help. I was fortunate to not have known anyone in the towers, but that day changed the world. We lost too many people, but Americans especially gained more love for the country than I had ever seen before. That day has been drilled into my head forever. I can’t believe it has been 8 years. New York will never be the same from that day. This is a photo I took last weekend from New Jersey, the skyline is simply not the same.

Always remember those we lost on 9/11.
